This is Houston

I've been here since 1967 with a couple of years away up north. I've lived thru storms that seemed like they would wipe us out. I've never seen this.

My house is perched pretty high. No issues around us but everywhere the TV stations look it seems the storm was devastating. We got nothing directly of the landfall but the storm is still stalled and sending bands of intense rain over the Houston SE Texas region. Gonna be days before it stops.

I'll post a few things in a day or so as I expect to be stuck here for awhile. But all my family and all the friends I've reached across the area are doing well so there's that.

  2. My hometown went through a big flood in 2011. It was pretty devastating, although I'm sure on a much smaller scale than this.

  3. Glad to hear you're high and dry as well. This one's broached the 500 year flood mark - it's going to be the new benchmark storm for the city.

  4. I sat down to send you an email to see if you're doing OK, but saw this first... Glad to hear that you & yours are doing well. We're keeping all those affected by Harvey in our thoughts.

  7. Glad to hear you and your family are safe. Living in the Bay Area, I was always more worried about earthquakes than floods... but last Christmas we were hit with flooding. It was truly a terrible sight. The only positive thing I can think of was that it brought communities together and opened up peoples' hearts.

  9. Hang in there! I live up the road in Waco and it's been raining here for days - can't imagine what you're dealing with so much closer to the heavy stuff.
