Musing about my five collecting interests: All things Orioles and BALTIMORE Colts, 50's Baseball, team publications, Japanese cards and even some football and hockey. You might find some beautiful women, soccer stuff, presidential pins and life advice from time to time. I don't charge extra for any of those.

Oh Puleeze!
Not that it'll draw much sympathy from anyone but Man U got hosed with a verrrry questionable red card in yesterday's match with Real Madrid. The ref called Nani for a 'studs up' challenge which he decided was intentionally dangerous. Bullshit. It was pretty obvious that Nani had no intention of hitting anything except the ball. I don't think his eyes ever left the ball. All this shouldn't have been a surprise, though. There was an interesting column in the Daily Mail Online published before the match which profiled this 'trigger happy' Turkish ref.
Even Real's coach Jose Mourinho said "I doubt that 11 against 11 we can win that match" and "'I try to be honest and in my honest opinion the best team lost." But it was what it was and RM came from a goal down to score twice to a now shorthanded MU squad and gain a 2-1 win.
But life goes on. Here are a few more of my soccer/futbal/football Manchester United set from Panini.
Edwin van der Sar.... the Dutch goalie who is considered one of the best in history. Now retired from active play I was lucky to see him in action in Houston against the MLS All Stars in 2010.
Nemanja Vidic... the Man U Captain.
Rio Ferdinand...English player who has been with MU since 2002 I think.
Man Utd had the bird on the hands and let it fly away!
ReplyDeleteWith some referee help..
It seems that this is the year for Madrid. Even if it is because they play and win for it or just because mister Platini demands that ;)
I can accept Nani getting red but if it was hockey it was more like 15min in the box. It can be red or not. At first it does not seem like Nani knows Arbeloa is there, he seems to be just looking to the ball and gets the foot up ready to get the ball. But Nani can be mean sometimes ;)
Your grandfather was Portuguese? That is cool =)
Vidic is huge in the defense!
That was undoubtably one of the top two worst calls I've seen. Unbelievable. I loved what the announcers were saying the rest of the match as the referee totally ignored virtually every foul against MU.
ReplyDeleteI think the best line was "that man obviously bounces to his own tune that only he can hear..."
I'm still pissed.
on a happier note, awesome cards... I really have to work on my United and van der Sar collection. He was/is still my fave.
I just wish the cards were easier to come by. Having to buy them from someone in Europe is a pain.
About the cards, I have the same problem referring to baseball cards. Usually having to get them from someone in USA or someone in Europe who get cards from USA.
DeleteTopps and so would do better and try selling the products across the globe. Or at least enable the services to be more worldwide. If individuals manage to send/receive cards across the world, these big companies would do it easier no?
I think I have a Nani card. I will check if I have a duplicate one for you. What I do have of van der Sar are stickers. I can check them too for you :)
Thanks, Ana. I had been under the impression that Topps had a division that did business in Europe but I think I was wrong about that. With baseball widening it's horizons thru the World Baseball Classic I would think that market is ripe.
DeleteI'd love anything you could find as far as dupes. And let me know what you are looking for that is more available here stateside. I'd be glad to help.
